MORE USES FOR BAKING SODA

 

The Statue of Liberty received an All-American cleaning for the 1976 bicentennial celebration.
She was cleaned with baking soda!


For cleaning silver, mix with water and apply as a past with dry soft cloth.
Or you can line a pan with aluminum foil, shiny side up. Make sure it covers the pan completely.  Add your silver pieces and cover with warm water and several tablespoons of baking soda.  Wait 10 minutes and the tarnish will be gone without any work or expense.

For cleaning drains, mix one cup baking soda, on cup salt, and a half cup of white vinegar. Pour down clogged drain, wait about 20 minutes, then pour a big pot of boiling water down the drain. DON'T USE THIS METHOD IF YOU'VE ALREADY TRIED A COMMERCIAL DRAIN OPENER THAT IS STILL STANDING IN THE DRAIN!

Deodorant: Put a little baking soda on a powder puff, pat under your arms, and you'll be odor-free all day.

De-bug your windshield: Put a half cup of baking soda in a quart of water. Wrap a mesh bag
(the kind oranges, onions are sold in) around the sponge.  Dip it into the solution and scrub the glass clean.

Poison Ivy itch: make a paste of baking soda and water.  Gently spread the thick mixture over the affected area.

Brighten Piano Keys: Apply a baking soda and water solution with a damp cloth, one key at a time, being careful not to get any down between the keys.  Wipe with a clean, damp cloth, then buff with a dry one.

Microwave: Use a quart of warm water mixed with four tablespoons of baking soda to scrub and deodorize the inside.

Bath salts: Dissolve baking soda into a warm tub for a relaxing bath and softer skin.

Clean iron cookware: Put two teaspoon of baking soda and a quart of water into the pot and bring to a boil.

To remove baked-on sugars and starches from glass cookware, soak it in warm water and dishwashing detergent with a little baking soda added.

Whiten athletic socks:  Mix some baking soda with water to presoak your socks. It will loosen the soil, so when the throw them in the wash, they'll come out clean.

Stinky shoes: Coat the inside of your shoes with baking soda and let them air out for a while. Be sure to shake out before wearing your shoes again.

Put out fires: Keep a box of baking soda near your stove. It works well for extinguishing grease fires and electrical fires.

Acid Indigestion: Baking soda helps neutralize stomach acid, which can cause indigestion and heartburn.  For fast relief, drink a half glass of water mixed with a half teaspoon baking soda.

Ease insect stings:  Make a paste using baking soda and rubbing alcohol and apply to the sting or bite.

BATTERY POSTS:  Make a paste of one cup baking soda and one cup water. Paint this on your car battery post to neutralize corrosion. Let sit one hour and clean it off.

Deodorize your dog: Rub some baking soda into his coat and brush it off...

Septic Tank: Help keep it fresh (if you have a septic tank) by flushing a cup of baking soda down the toilet ever so often.

Melted Plastic: Scrub away  melted plastic wrap that has melted on your microwave, toaster, or toaster oven by using a damp cloth and some baking soda.

Repel rain from windshield: For a slicker windshield, put a handful of baking soda on a dampened cloth and wipe your windshield inside and out.

Cut grease with soft hands: Add a tablespoon of baking soda to your dishwater. It cuts grease and softens your hands at the same time!

Don't add baking soda to vegetables - it will destroy some of the vitamins

 

 

For baking purposes, baking soda won't last forever.
To test its freshness, put one-quarter teaspoon in one tablespoon of vinegar.
If the baking soda bubbles, go ahead and use it.
